3. Cost of ICN = $94.69M and 3000-mile fiber optics backbone instead of copper. (474 was original estimate of sites!)

4. Mechanics: DS-3 = 28 T-1 and 24 = ICN classroom connection

• 1 T-1=24 phone lines
• 1 phone line = 56-64 kb/sec.

5. Sites: 1995 = 147 (58 K-12)

• Anticipated by 2000 = 688 (368 K-12)
• Actual in 2001 = 744 with 394 K-12.

6. Costs

• Cost per site to build = $45-60K
• Internet through ICN = $264/mo for K-12 (use has increased greatly in past three years in all education venues)

• $6.10 K-12 (increases to $12.20 July1,2002)

  (Universal Service Fund will assist K-12.)

• $7.35 Higher Education / other training(In-services) ($8.10 in July,2002)

• $48.20 Federal and Telemedicine ($53.00 in July,2002)

9. Uses:

• One-time events (on demand)
• Semester-long courses (higher education)
• Year-long courses (K-12 and Higher Ed)
• Telejustice (parole hearings) and Telemedicine
