AR VERBS: PRINCIPLES AND ANALYSIS
Observation One: There are AR,ER, and IR verbs.
In actuality, they are what are called in English, infinitives or "to" words.
For example: cantar = to sing
Observation Two: Division of the infinitive "cantar" will yield:
"cant" which means "sing" AND "ar" which means "to".
Observation Three: Before using cantar to express ideas such as "I sing",
first drop the "ar" at the end of the infinitive
and replace it with the proper ending
which you will find in the next observation.
Observation Four:These are the endings and their usage in proper position:
o = I, therefore canto = I sing
as = you (familiar), therefore cantas = you (familiar) sing
a = he or it, therefore canta = he sings or it sings
EXCEPT:
when the word ella appears before it:
ella canta = she sings
OR:
when the word usted appears before it:
usted canta = you (formal) sing
ALL OF THE ABOVE FORMS ARE SPOKEN TO OR ABOUT ONE PERSON AND ARE SINGULAR!
THE FOLLOWING FORMS ARE USED FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON AND ARE PLURAL FORMS.
amos = we, therefore cantamos = we sing
an = they, therefore cantan = they sing
EXCEPT:
when the word ustedes appears before it:
ustedes cantan = you guys sing = you (plural) sing
Observation Five:To emphasize the idea of "I", "you" (familiar), "he",
"we", or "they", add the following PRONOUNS in front of the verb forms:
yo = I, therefore yo canto also means I sing
tú = you (familiar) therefore tú cantas also means you (familiar) sing
él = he, therefore él canta also means he sings
nosotros = we, therefore nosotros cantamos also means we sing
ellos = they (masculine or mixed group), therefore
ellos cantan means they sing (masculine only or mixed group)
ellas = they (feminine group only), therefore
ellas cantan means they sing (feminine group only)
